Sawubona worked as a partner with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) in the implementation of the National Quality Infrastructure Project (NQIP) in Nigeria. The €23 million project was funded by the European Union and implemented in Nigeria by UNIDO in collaboration with the Federal Ministries of Industry, Trade & Investment, Agriculture, and Health. The goal of the project was to build the quality infrastructure needed to create trust for Nigeria’s export in the international market.
A significant part of the quality assurance value was focused on the textile and leather goods value chain, given the historical significance of the value chain to Nigeria’s export income. Particular focus of our research was on the quality gaps in Nigeria’s textile and leather goods industry vertical.
